Episode Overview

It’s 1916, and Tommy and Michael find themselves on opposing sides of the Somme. The war has ground to a bloody stalemate, yet the fighting rages on with desperate intensity. But the soldiers’ minds are far from the front. Michael clings to thoughts of his wife back home, while Tommy’s comrades arrange for him to visit Joanna at the hospital. As British and German troops mass along the Somme, the bombardment begins. Amid the chaos, Michael quietly loses hope that he’ll ever make it out alive.
