Ernie Stubblefield, eager to escape his former life, adopts the alias Earl Stafford and joins a traveling comedy troupe featuring laughing gas. When Cloud Marsh decides to sample the gas, he becomes the target of ridicule from the townsfolk. Furious, he and his brothers confront Stubblefield/Stafford, seeking revenge for the humiliation.
