Jeff's so-called friend Doug keeps dragging him into trouble at school, and Jeff ends up shouldering the blame for Doug's antics. He does this quietly, understanding that Doug's mother is always criticizing him and wishing he could emulate Jeff's good behavior, which makes Jeff appear like an angel in her eyes.
