Episode Overview

After four satellite launches in the Space Race, the scoreboard for pounds placed in orbit reads: Communism—1,300; Capitalism—33. The humiliations keep piling up. In the greatest sales pitch of all time, the Soviet Union is handing the United States its defeat on a silver platter. But then a new capsule—the space-age equivalent of a '66 Corvette Stingray convertible—begins gaining real momentum as the Cold War intensifies.
