In the close-knit community of Avonlea, secrets are hard to come by. Frustrated, Marilla Cuthbert decides to invent a fictional suitor for the women in the sewing circle. To her surprise, a traveling salesman with the exact name she created arrives in town. Faced with this unexpected twist, Marilla comes clean to Duncan McTavish about her little ruse. Understanding her dilemma, Duncan steps in to assist Marilla in silencing the gossiping townsfolk once and for all.
