Episode Overview

Victoria Winters arrives in Collinsport by train from New York, ready to take on the role of governess for 10-year-old David Collins. On the same train is the enigmatic Burke Devlin, whose presence raises questions. Tensions flare between Elizabeth Collins Stoddard and Roger Collins as they debate the wisdom of Victoria's hiring. Once in town, Victoria and Burke head to a hotel where she waits for a taxi, but he appears unsettled. He later visits the Blue Whale, where he meets with an investigator. Meanwhile, Victoria encounters Maggie Evans, who harshly criticizes her decision to accept the position. Despite the negativity, Victoria goes to Collinwood, where Elizabeth welcomes her inside.
