Episode Overview

Title: Richard II Plot: King Richard is summoned to resolve a conflict between his cousin Henry Bolingbroke and Thomas Mowbray. He orders a duel but interrupts it just before the combat begins, ultimately banishing both men from England. Later, Richard visits his dying uncle, John of Gaunt, Bolingbroke's father, who chastises Richard for his misdeeds. After confiscating Gaunt's wealth and lands, Richard departs to fight rebels in Ireland. Meanwhile, Bolingbroke returns to reclaim his rightful inheritance. With the backing of allies Northumberland and the Duke of York, he captures Richard and asserts his claim to the crown.
