In a round table discussion, Bradley informs George that pithead baths will be introduced to provoke a strike among the workforce. Meanwhile, Patience’s trial unfolds as she takes the stand. Bradley requests that Charlotte go back home. During her testimony, Patience recounts her visit to Mountfast on the night of the murder, revealing that she was so horrified by his immoral behavior that he took his own life.
