Episode Overview
In this opening episode, DCI Alan Banks is called to a canal site where a deadly blaze has occurred. The investigation quickly reveals that the case is complex, and with the emergence of another corpse, the reasons behind the fire and the identity of the target grow murky. However, the unearthing of a painting resembling a Turner landscape hints that one of the deceased may have been entangled in an art forgery operation.
