Sisters Gert and Marigold Brewer find themselves in Dead Horse Gap, fleeing from dubious dealings in Sydney, yet optimistic about starting anew. They seek out an old acquaintance, Fran, who has transformed into a sophisticated French lady to capture the heart of her affluent husband, Percy. However, when Fran feigns ignorance of their identities, the sisters are compelled to devise a clever scheme to secure a place to stay for the night.
