Pierre Martin spent years in prison for killing Randall Bettinger—until Bettinger suddenly showed up alive, making Len look incompetent for having closed the case. Within 48 hours, Bettinger turned up dead for real. Casey put both Nicco and Len on the investigation, and each leaned on their informants to find the killer. Meanwhile, Mickey got drawn into a cold case: the murder of six-year-old Jeannie Yan, nearly ten years old, because she was the first dead child Mickey had ever seen. She asked Ali to look into it, but when Ali declined, Mickey started investigating on her own.
