Frustrated with his father for confiscating his car keys, Lumpy Rutherford makes the impulsive choice to enlist in the Merchant Marine Corps, opting to have the enrollment details sent to the Cleaver household instead of his own. Eager to support his friend, Wally stashes the recruitment materials in his room. However, when June discovers them during her cleaning, she misinterprets the situation, believing that Wally's recent arguments with his girlfriend and a talking-to from Ward have pushed him to consider leaving home.
